Cookie (Female African Grey)
3 year old female African Grey named Cookie. Very playful and energetic. A bit of a picky eater. Sunflower seeds and bananas are her obsession. Loves to mimic sounds (Sounds that she has learned: sneezing laughing phone ringing different bird sounds barks like a dog etc.). Still learning phrases (phrases she can say: "what are you doing" "your way" "what are you doing today" etc. She loves to hang out on top of her cage when it's a bright and sunny day. When it's a rainy day she stays in her cage. She loves ripping up paper or paper like toys. We give her a shower almost every Sunday when it's a hot day. She loves running after the garden hose. Makes it clear she wants more water. Not very fond of direct sunlight so if you let her hang out outside make sure she is in the shade. Give her a tree stump and she'll rip off all the bark around it. That's her daily exercise when she's hanging out in the backyard. But make sure to always be present with her if you are letting her play in the backyard. Too many predators around so she can not be alone. Needs to be supervised at all times when out. We have a cat so we were a bit scared at first that they would not get along. But so far they have only been curious with each other. Sometimes I find them talking but there has never been an issue with them. So I guess Cookie is friendly with other pets if you do have one. They have been close together out of the cage so there has been interactions between the two without the cage being between them. I will say that Cookie did yell at my cat in the very beginning and that might have set the tone since then. So the cat doesn't mess around with the bird after that. But there has never been anything physical. Cookie has been with us for 2 months. We bought her for my high-schooler to teach her responsiblility. She is also in a vet program so she is trying to expose herself as well i guess. She also did want an African Grey for a long time. We were skeptical but wanted to give it a try. I would Rather have my kid obsess over birds than other things. However she has realized that birds are not her cup of tea and doesn't want to keep Cookie and take away the possibility of finding a better and more fit home than with us.View Detail
