The original breeder had sold her to another “breeder” who signed a contract and promised to “take care of” this female and a second chocolate sister she purchased almost 2 years ago. The original breeder received a call from another breeder that said she had just repoed one of her Danes from the buyer and that when she went to pick up the females they were in appalling conditions. Over 6 to 7 were being kept in small 10’x10’ cages in poop filled mush, covered in feces and nearly starving to death. When the original breeder called the buyer and told her he was in town and wanted to see his dogs she allowed him to visit unable to deny the visit per her contract with him. What he saw turned his stomach and he also immediately repoe’d the two females he had sold to this breeder. The original breeder having space availability issues reached out to us to take in one of the chocolate females and we agreed to do so last year. The female had already been bred and birthed a litter of puppies, was severely thin and malnourished with rib bones showing and we have had a constant battle with her body properly absorbing nutrients from her food and thus she has extremely thin hair and some complete loss of hair. The severity also depends on climate changes, and her stress level. We have managed to get her to put on some weight but its still an every day battle of feeding her a high fat diet to keep her from dropping the weight we’ve diligently worked to get back on her. This dog was also severely abused and deathly afraid of all men to include my husband. We have worked with her and turned her around a lot. She will now approach my husband if he is OUTSIDE of her kennel and kiss him through the door where as before she would hide in the far back corner and urinate on herself. She is more open to women and will first run when I enter her kennel to the back corner, but then will walk up to me and lean on me and allow me to pet her and kiss her muzzle. When we first got her she would slam herself on the ground and crawl out from under a pet. Would not allow any kind affection even petting. When we first got her she would ONLY let my children pet her and hug her. So she has come a long way to trust us, however she is still very standoffish and scared. She just doesn’t trust people to no fault of her own it’s obvious she was abused and mistreated. Her tail has also been split as a young age and is cauliflowered at the end and now scarred over. She will NEVER go out on breeding rights and is ONLY ADOPTABLE but she needs a family who is willing to work with her both nutritional wise and emotionally. She has been kenneled both with females and males and tends to do better with males. She has never been around small dogs or cats. She has been around children and is completely trust worthy around children. She is NOT aggressive in any way and is actually petrified of everything. From the photos you can see where she was attacked at some point by another dog and her ear is ripped and has been healed and scar tissue over at the end. This baby needs a patient, loving home that understands she was severely mistreated and abused and needs time to trust you and grow. She is healthy other then the hair loss and thinning and the trouble keeping weight on her. She is smaller then a dane her age should be but that’s attributed being malnourished in the begging stages of her life. Because of her age she has all of her appropriate shots until 2 year old and needs her booster shot in February 2019, and her 6month booster kennel cough shot which will be due at the end of September. She will also need her Rabies shot. She is up to date on all Her photos are recent and were taken on 8/27/2018
