Saved from a snake breeder, and adopted out of a high school laboratory, Turtle is 9 months old and very domesticated. I often handle her and let her crawl around my arms, and she sits still on my shoulder when I am walking around. Turtle is no ordinary pet, and raises eyebrows at first; but ultimately she is as loving a creature as any cat or dog.
I include everything a rat owner would need for this special breed of rat, called a dumbo rat, a species selectively bred to be more docile, and named after Dumbo the elephant for their large floppy ears. She has plenty of food and bedding to last about a year, and seeks a good owner and loving family.
What to know:
To upkeep this animal you would need to feed her daily, but you can leave larger piles of food if you are leaving for a weekend or so. You would also need to refill the water bottle, which she usually finishes in a few days. I would warn against buying a bigger bottle because she may want to bite any plastic versions of a water bottle. I also try to clean the cage once a week.
Why would I give up such an adorable little bundle of fluff??
The same reason many people my age are buying and selling things on the marketplaces:
College.
She needs someone to care for her while I go off to college, and I really want to make sure she ends up in a safe and loving home
